This presentation offers a comparative analysis of oral appliance therapy (OAT) using mandibular advancement devices (MADs) and hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS/Inspire) in the management of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). We will examine mechanisms of action, anatomical considerations, and clinical outcomes, including responder and non-responder profiles, based on current evidence. The session will also explore the role of combination therapy (OAT + HGNS) and present clinical cases that illustrate integrated, patient-centered treatment approaches.
Target Audience
Dentists treating patients with sleep-related breathing disorders.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Identify anatomical and predictors of treatment success and limitations for both OAT and HGNS.
2. Evaluate clinical outcomes and responder criteria using evidence-based guidelines.
3. Review the importance of patient selection for successful outcomes in combination therapy and analyze clinical cases demonstrating enhanced efficacy when OAT and HGNS are used together.
