VA and DoD Release Joint Guidelines on OSA and Chronic Insomnia Disorder

This month, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) collaborated to release guidelines on OSA and Chronic Insomnia Disorder. These guidelines indicate that oral appliance therapy may be as effective as PAP therapy, due to patient preference and greater adherence to treatment. Current VA/DoD guidelines indicate that “[f]or patients with mild to moderate OSA (i.e., AHI 5 – <30 events per hour), either PAP or MAD therapy can be considered for initial therapy; choice of treatment should be based on clinical evaluation, comorbidities, and patient preference.”
