New AADSM President Brings Wealth of Experience to Leadership Role

(LISLE) May 18, 2022 – Dr. Mitchell Levine was recently installed as president of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) – the leading national organization for dentists who treat sleep-disordered breathing, including obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.

“Dr. Levine brings a wealth of experience; an evidence-based, patient-centered approach to care; and the humility and perseverance that is required of this role,” said outgoing AADSM president Dr. David Schwartz. “I know that he will be an excellent leader for the Academy at this important time in our history.”

“During my presidency, I will work with our Board of Directors, committees and staff to launch new initiatives, confront challenges, and continue to evolve in the rapidly changing field of dental sleep medicine,” said Dr. Levine. “I will challenge our board of directors to continue to develop education, tools and other resources that support the growth of dental sleep medicine practices.”

Dr. Levine is an associate professor of orthodontics at St. Louis University. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Levine spent 30 years in private practice in Jacksonville, Florida where one third of his practice was related to treating sleep-disordered breathing.

Dr. Levine has been a member of the AADSM since 2010. Throughout that time, he has served on the Health Policy Education Committee, served as chair of the task force that wrote the Dental Sleep Medicine Standards for Screening, Treating and Managing Adults with Sleep-Related Breathing Disorders, was a member of the task force that developed the consensus recommendations on Identifying the Appropriate Therapeutic Position of an Oral Appliance, and served as a faculty member of the AADSM Mastery Program.  He was also co-author of the Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Orthodontics: An American Association of Orthodontists White Paper.
