Avoid financial penalties by checking your Medicare revalidation status

The Medicare Learning Network (MLN) recently provided instructions on how providers and suppliers may revalidate through their Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs). This announcement applies to dentists who dispense oral appliances to Medicare patients since dentists in this capacity are considered DME suppliers. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has established due dates by which suppliers' revalidation applications must reach their MACs in order to meet Medicare's enrollment requirements. Applications must be submitted within six months of the due date to avoid reimbursement holds on Medicare payments and possible deactivation of Medicare billing privileges. In order to remain compliant with Medicare requirements, suppliers should take the following steps:

  1. Check to see if a due date has been posted to the Medicare Revalidation List
  2. If a due date is posted:
•Submit a revalidation application through the Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS)
             •Submit the CMS-855S form
•Pay a Provider Enrollment Medicare Application Fee
