The AADSM recently communicated with AIM Specialty Health, a benefits management company, to request that its recent adoption of the CMS definition of an oral appliance be reevaluated, as it is not consistent with oral appliance therapy research. For their consideration, AADSM provided the Definition of an Effective Oral Appliance as well as evidence-based publications, including the AADSM and AASM Clinical Practice Guideline for the Treatment of OSA and Snoring with Oral Appliance Therapy, to advocate for best practices in oral appliance therapy.

As insurance companies make decisions about dental sleep medicine reimbursement policies, we will continue to position AADSM members and oral appliance therapy for success.
