As of October 1, the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) has replaced ICD-9. ICD-10 updates the medical diagnosis codes used by physicians. Effective October 1, physicians will identify patients with obstructive sleep apnea using the ICD-10 diagnosis code G47.33. This code replaces ICD-9 code 327.23. Dentists will continue to use the same HCPCS level II codes for oral appliance therapy: E0485 for a pre-fabricated mandibular advancement device and E0486 for a custom fabricated mandibular advancement device.
