Dear AADSM Members,
As the president of the AADSM, it’s my pleasure to update you on our organization’s Annual Meeting and quarterly board of directors meeting, both held in Seattle last month.
I am pleased to report that the Annual Meeting was a huge success. Nearly 1,200 members and experts joined us in Seattle for the conference and helped set an attendance record for AADSM. During the meeting, we marked yet another milestone with the presentation of the new Clinical Practice Guideline for Oral Appliance Therapy – the first official joint guideline from the AADSM and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The new guideline is published in the July issue of the Journal of Dental Sleep Medicine and supports increased teamwork between physicians and dentists to achieve optimal treatment of patients with OSA. I encourage you to download and review the clinical practice guideline.
During the quarterly board meeting, the board of directors also supported initiatives to promote and strengthen dental sleep medicine in the future including:
- Revising the Facility Accreditation standards to align educational requirements for the dental director with those in the new Oral Appliance Clinical Practice Guideline, effective January 2017.
- Extending our public relations campaign to generate awareness of OAT for another three years. More detailed PR campaign updates are available on the AADSM website.
I appreciate your support of the AADSM and your passion for dental sleep medicine, and I thank everyone who contributed to and participated in our successful Annual Meeting.
