AADSM/AASM Joint Policy Statement

American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine
Friday, November 9, 2012

As the number of dentists who have begun to provide oral appliance therapy has increased rapidly in recent years, both the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) and American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) have received inquiries from members seeking clarification regarding the scope of practice of the physician and dentist in the diagnosis and long-term management of patients with OSA. Therefore, the AASM and AADSM collaboratively developed a Joint Policy Statement on the Diagnosis and Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which provides the necessary guidance for our members and emphasizes the distinguishing facets of medical and dental licensing laws and practice acts.

This document is currently being revised to improve clarity and understanding.
